This mountain village, declared a Historical Site, is situated in the foothills of the Sierra del Jaral, in the #SierradeGrazalema Natural Park. Modern-day Zahara was founded during the period of Moorish occupation. From that period, the town still preserves, apart from the typical labyrinthine Al-Andalus urban design, its 13th century castle with restored keep and the remains of the medieval village with stretches of walls. Its hillside position imbues the village with an unusual urban appearance. The different levels mean that the streets are necessarily stepped. In the pretty town centre, the Santa MarÃa de la Mesa Church, the San Juan de Letrán Chapel, the Torre del Reloj (Clock Tower) and the Palominos Bridge are particularly interesting. #cadizlovers #discovercadiz #SierradeCadiz #cadizmountains
